Top Local Attractions

Murrells Inlet

Just a half-hour south of downtown Myrtle Beach is Murrells Inlet, a picturesque waterfront estuary where you can enjoy outdoor/indoor dining, live music, boat excursions, sunset charters, wildlife (including “goat island”!). Murrells Inlet is known to have the best seafood in the area. Furthermore, there is no container law, meaning you can take your drink and walk along the boardwalk. (sweet!). A few of our favorite restaurant and bar options in Murrells Inlet are Hot Fish Club, Tuna Shack, Wahoo's Raw Bar & Marina and Dead Dog Saloon. The best time to visit Murrells Inlet is on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night for happy hour, apps and live music. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!

Surside Beach

20 minutes south of Myrtle Beach is Surfside Beach. This South Strand community has been family favorite for generations and proudly calls itself "the family beach." Along its lovely beachfront, you'll find beautiful and colorful beach houses and great local “off the beaten path” dining options. Surfside’s pristine beaches are cleaned daily and supervised by lifeguards and police, and there are several beach access points that offer showers, restrooms and accessible ramps for persons with disabilities. For oceanfront happy hour and food, be sure to check out Scotty’s Beach Bar!

Broadway At The Beach

This outdoor food, shopping and entertainment complex is a big hit with visitors, who enjoy all of the options on hand, from riding on a Ferris wheel to dining on the water to shopping. The complex is set along the 23-acre Lake Broadway, with big crowd-pleasers like the Hard Rock Cafe, Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville and Ripley's Aquarium located here. There's a movie theater, more than two dozen food outlets, three hotels and all sorts of entertainment, including a piano bar, dance and comedy clubs. In the summer, there are firework displays every Tuesday and select Friday nights, as well as other family-friendly festivals. There is no charge to visit Broadway at the Beach, but certain attractions charge fees. Hours vary depending on the venue. If you’re a golfer be sure to visit TopGolf, a three-story-tall driving range with bar and kitchen, but be sure to make a reservation in advance. Our personal favorite dining option here is Bar Louis.

North Myrtle Beach

About 13 miles north of our condo, is “North Myrtle Beach”, another beautiful beach community that’s very different from the Myrtle Beach boardwalk, and is worth visiting for a daytrip, dinner and/or drinks. Your GPS will likely have you take the freeway to get to North Myrtle Beach (Route 17 and Route 31), but we highly recommend taking the more scenic route, along the coast, via North Ocean Blvd an South Ocean Blvd. This scenic route will take you by some beautiful beachside mansions. One of our favorite establishments in North Myrtle Beach is Local on the Water, a fun indoor/outdoor bar and restaurant that’s great for sunset views, cold drinks, and good food. Sit around the fire pit, dance to live music or a DJ, or share appetizers around one of their bars. The menu is diverse and flavorful. Whether you're looking for something Southern-inspired, seafood, a great burger, or just appetizers to share, they’ve got something to please the whole group.

Day Trip to Charleston

2.5 hours away from Myrtle Beach in car is Charleston, the South Carolina port city founded in 1670. Charleston is defined by its cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages and pastel antebellum houses, particularly in the elegant French Quarter and Battery districts. Visitors are attracted to Charleston, S.C. during all seasons, for every motivation imaginable. The variety of things to do and see in Charleston keeps these first timers coming back to the Holy City, ranging from the antebellum historic sites such as Patriot's Point or Fort Sumter, where the first shots of the Civil War were fired, to the modern and inspiring new Children's Museum of the Lowcountry and the South Carolina Aquarium. You can't miss exploring the several beaches in the Charleston area while in town, like Folly Beach or Sullivan's Island, no matter the time of year.

Golf

Myrtle Beach is often touted as the golf capital of the world – with good cause. For a relatively small area, it boasts a large number of golf courses – more than 80, in fact. What's more, courses designed by the big names in the industry, such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones and Greg Norman, can all be found here. At the Barefoot Resort & Golf property, four courses await visitors, including the Pete Dye course, where golfers can tackle one of the most challenging courses in Myrtle Beach. Meanwhile, the property's Greg Norman course features seven holes along the Intracoastal Waterway.

Craft Beer

The Crafty Rooster in Conway features more than 100 craft beer selections. The bar was started by former Coastal Carolina students, and the name is a reference to CCU’s mascot, the Chanticleer. Atlas Tap House features a great beer (and bourbon) selection of its own, and its location right across the street from the SkyWheel -- which you can see from the back patio/tiki bar -- offers an atmosphere that’s tough to beat.

Jam Out With Locals

The backyard at The Boathouse looks out over the Intracoastal Waterway, making a strong case as one of the East Coast's premier outdoor music venues. That's bolstered by their free Sunday concert series that attracts touring jambands and country acts like Big Something, Afroman and Riley Green. Right in the heart of town at Barefoot Landing, the House of Blues features national acts like Drake White and the Flaming Lips in an intimate, tiered room, but their main attraction may be the Sunday morning gospel brunch.

Explore the quaint, nearby town of Conway

You’ll feel like you’re in a mini-Charleston when you pull into the town of Conway with its tree-lined streets, historic homes, and even a towering church steeple. The best way to experience the town might be to bounce along the downtown streets and along the Wacamaw River, popping into antique shops and restaurants like the Rivertown Bistro for sophisticated Southern fare or Bonfire Taqueria for the irresistible combination of tacos and barbecue.

Family Kingdom Amusement Park

The Family Kingdom Amusement Park offers the rides and games of a full-scale park with the flexibility of pay-per-ride options. Whether you get a wristband for all-day fun or just want to stroll through the arcades and soak up the festive seaside carnival atmosphere, this is a fun place for families, couples, and everyone else. Guests also have the same range of options at the adjacent Splashes Water Park and can enjoy huge discounts when purchasing combination tickets. The park is home to classic favorites like bumper cars, go-karts, antique cars, a carousel, Ferris wheels, and a kiddie train. Thrill rides include multiple roller coasters, tilt-a-whirl, and a 110-foot free fall Drop Zone, and there are refreshing favorites including a flume ride and lazy river.

The Carolina Opry Theater

One of the original live entertainment icons of Myrtle Beach, the Carolina Opry Theater—which has been touted everywhere from The New York Times to NBC Nightly News—is celebrating the big 3-5 in 2020. And the award-winning resident director and producer, Calvin Gilmore, is shaking things up in honor of the anniversary. Picture high-energy music, dance and comedy starring an ever-shifting lineup of bold-faced names—most recently, everyone from singer Delvin Choice (of The Voice fame) to hip-hop cloggers All That! (of America’s Got Talent fame)

Ripley’s Aquarium

Between its swim-with-the-stingrays programs and night-under-the-sharks family sleepovers, this beach-adjacent aquarium is already known for its immersive marine experiences. But it’s now debuting a game-changer: The largest expansion in the aquarium’s history, the 5,500-square-foot African penguin habitat comes with—among other fabulous features—a 360-degree crawl tunnel. But the aquarium’s second new enhancement is arguably even more groundbreaking: Ripley's Aquarium of Myrtle Beach is now the first Certified Autism Center in the state. This international designation signals that—among other things—the staff has completed sensitivity, awareness and safety training—and the aquarium has designed specialized programs for guests with autism and other sensory issues.

WonderWorks Myrtle Beach

WonderWorks Myrtle Beach takes the concept of a science museum to a new level, engaging kids of all ages in learning while having tons of fun. The interactive exhibits are organized by theme into WonderZones, which focus on topics like natural disasters, physical challenges, lights and sound, space exploration, and art. There is also an area dedicated to the youngest visitors, where they can play and learn with activities like a giant Lite-Brite.

Pirates Voyage

Next door to The Carolina Opry sits Dolly Parton's "Pirates Voyage," a dinner show for landlubbers. Guests are seated in front of a watery stage to enjoy a hearty meal while watching acrobatic pirates from the Sapphire and Crimson crews battle for victory. Sea lions, parrots, and other live animals join the pirates for tricks, comedy, and contests. And audience members can also join in on the fun. Even though you can purchase tickets at the door, it's a good idea to call ahead to secure the best seats. Also plan to arrive early to get good spots for the pre-show, which is a first-come, first-served general seating show.
